In the 1980s Kent, now in his 30s, moved from Regina to Saskatoon. During his transition to the city, he didn’t only pursue theatre, but dedicated a lot of his time and energy to mastering karate, earning his third degree black belt and teaching at Midwest Karate. In a report on Midwest Karate for the Star Phoenix, he said “Karate is not winning or losing, but improving the character of the individual through discipline.”
